ANALYSIS OF FORCE AND POWER RELATIONS OF OBLIQUE CUTTING IN WOOD MACHINING EXPERIMENT PART I

Авторы: Zoltan Kocsis, Etele Csanady, Gabor Nemeth

The oblique cutting is often used for veneer production, planing and milling operations. It has a lot of advantages both from operational and machining point of view. In the first part of these experiments our goal was to measure the oblique cutting force and power requirements using four different wood species with fixed cutting angle and cutting thickness. The results support the relationships based on practical observations. Independently of wood species the optimum of cutting power is at 25-35° oblique cutting (λ). The cutting force values have been calculated based on the measured power requirements. The cutting force strongly depends on the wood materials, the operation parameters and the oblique angle, and the tool cutting angle (δ) as well. The measurements results have been plotted graphically, the power curves have been used to calculate the specific force and its decrease compared to orthogonal cutting is represented in dimensionless form in order to generalize the obtained results.

Keywords: oblique cutting, cutting power, specific cutting force, dimensionless representation.
