STUDY OF THE PLASTICIZERS INFLUENCE ON THE POLYVINYLCHLORIDE AND WOOD FLOUR-BASED POLYMERIC COMPOSITE’S PROPERTIES

In this work, the possibility of using waste PVC ceiling panels as a polymer matrix to produce wood-polymer composites was investigated. Suspension polyvinyl chloride brand SI-67 and polyvinyl chloride obtained by grinding and subsequent granulation of out-of-service ceiling panels were used as polymer matrices. Phthalic acid dibutyl ester (dibutyl phthalate) was used as a plasticizer. For samples of the obtained composites, the values of such physical and mechanical properties as Brinell hardness, compressive modulus, flexural strength, elasticity number, plasticity, impact strength (strength), as well as water absorption after 24 hours and seven days of exposure in an aqueous medium were determined. Experimental-statistical dependences of the indicators of bending strength, impact strength, and water absorption on This study is devoted to assessing the effect of various types of plasticizers on the properties of polymer composite materials (PCM) based on polyvinyl chloride and wood flour. The aim of the work was to determine the effect of the type and content of the plasticizer on the physical and mechanical properties of PCM and the dynamics of biodegradation of PCM samples in the soil. The effect of the following plasticizers has been studied: dimethyl phthalate, dibutyl phthalate, dioctyl terephthalate, and trichloroethylene phosphate. The biodegradability of PCM samples was assessed by the value of weight loss after exposure to active soil and the change (decrease) in flexural strength and impact strength. For samples of the obtained composites, the values of indicators of key physical and mechanical properties were determined: Brinell hardness, contact modulus of elasticity in compression, flexural strength, impact strength, and water absorption after 24, 7, and 30 days of exposure hours. It has been established that an increase in the content of the studied plasticizers in the material leads to a decrease in hardness, compressive modulus, and bending strength. At the same time, an increase in water absorption and impact strength (strength) was observed. The presence in the composition of all types of the considered plasticizers accelerates the processes of PCM biodegradation in the soil. The conducted studies show that changing the type and content of a plasticizer in a composite with a PVC polymer phase can be an effective way to control the rate of their biodegradation in soil and change their physical and mechanical properties when immersed in soil.
